Golf has never been more exciting to follow. The media shift beginning in the late aughts has turned the game into a front-row experience: streamed, shared, and always within reach. Fans are more connected than ever now, fueling a dynamic, global community that lives and breathes the sport. I was lucky enough to work with the PGA during this breakthrough period of new media and technology. For much of my time here I was lead product designer, transitioning into management as a player-coach for the second half of my tenure with the PGA.
Our extensive coverage of the 100th PGA Championship delivered all-time records for PGA Digital, and audience increases across all platforms.
We catered to fans off and on the course, and debuted a Player Locator for those lucky enough to be on-site.
Fans could vote for their favorite golf moment in a bracket-style game. We were nominated for a Sports Emmy in Outstanding Trans-Media Sports Coverage this year.
2017 brought a completely redesigned suite of digital products, focusing on broadened video integration and responsive optimization for mobile viewing.
The Leaderboard was a hub for fans seeking live player scoring, shot data, course analytics and stat illustrations throughout the event – and now also included a video player showcasing highlights.
2015 ushered in a full redesign of the website and mobile apps.
Minute-by-Minute live updates provided fans with a live feed in the app, combining text, photos, video, and social media posts to keep them in the loop.
Live streaming of marquee groups and specific holes provided fans with constant live video action.
2015 brought upgrades of a robust leaderboard, stats, data viz, and alerts. Fans could dig into detailed scoring, receive notifications, and view video highlights.
The second year of the Samsung TV app showcased a more refined experience, capitalizing on live video coverage and VOD.
In 2014, we designed our first connected TV app, in partnership with Samsung and their devices. This paved the way for eventual expansion into Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV and more, across all sports.
Along with our new smart TV app, desktop, tablet and handset got an upgrade in 2014 and a lighter, brighter look.
In 2009, the PGA Championship debuted its first iOS app. It was the first Major to offer live video streaming. And it was also the very first app created in Turner Sports!
